In this week's Fantasy Brawl, we've got two of the most iconic movie creatures to ever grace the silver screen. In the red corner, we have the mighty T-Rex, and fighting out of the blue corner is the legendary Godzilla. Have you ever wondered what would happen if Godzilla and a T-Rex met face-to-face on the battlefield? Well, wonder no longer! The T-Rex would get roasted in half a second by Godzilla's atomic breath... and that's it... the end.
But of course, we wouldn't just leave things there. In the battle simulator, we'll be making Godzilla significantly smaller—about the size of a fully grown T-Rex—and stripping away his atomic breath. This will make for a much more interesting fight and allow us to learn more about Godzilla's melee capabilities outside of his overpowered atomic breath. Let's first figure out which of these two creatures is stronger when they're around the same size.
With both creatures standing around the same height, the edge in power still goes to Godzilla. A T-Rex is incredibly strong, but its strength lies mainly in its powerful hind legs, neck, and jaws. Its tiny arms provide little help in a fight, mostly serving as comedic relief. Godzilla, on the other hand, is much better equipped. He's super stocky and possesses a strong core, arms, neck, hind legs, back, and a powerful tail.
Godzilla's entire body is built for combat, and every limb, spike, and claw is used with high efficiency. So, even if we scale down Gojira, he's still way more powerful than the T-Rex could ever hope to be. Power goes to everyone's favorite kaiju, but what about speed? Could the T-Rex come out on top there?
This largely depends on the version of Godzilla we're talking about, as speed and locomotion vary greatly across different portrayals. For example, the 1998 film's Godzilla is built more like a T-Rex and might be faster. But in this simulator, we're using the Godzilla from Legendary's franchise, who's as slow as dirt.
The T-Rex, however, is built for speed, with huge hind legs and a streamlined body that allows for easy maneuverability. In a head-to-head race, the Tyrannosaurus Rex would easily outpace the big, bad kaiju. Speed advantage goes to Rexie! With advantages split so far, let's see which creature is smarter.
Not much is known about the intelligence of the T-Rex, but they aren't thought to be geniuses. In Jurassic Park, the T-Rex shows some problem-solving ability, and it appears to care for its young and form mating pairs for a period of time. This suggests some cognitive complexity.
Godzilla, however, is in a league of his own. This ancient beast carries a wealth of knowledge and can sense changes in Earth's atmosphere and environment. He can quickly deduce opponents' weak spots, learn from mistakes, and adapt new fighting styles to topple foes. As seen in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, he can even be reasoned with—if you ask nicely. All of this means Godzilla isn't operating solely on instinct but is quite intelligent, though perhaps not on the level of Kong or the Skullcrawler King.
Advantage in the intelligence department goes to Gojira! Our final category in this battle is bite force. Which of these big guys has the stronger set of chompers?
Godzilla has powerful muscles throughout his body, especially in his tail, and he often uses his massive jaws to bite through opposing kaiju with ease. The T-Rex, however, possesses a bite force of up to 12,000 pounds, allowing it to bite through bone and just about anything else it wants to chew up.
Since the T-Rex relies heavily on its ability to crush prey, it has a stronger bite than Godzilla, pound for pound. Godzilla has torn limbs off other kaiju, but he uses his jaws more like a vice grip, relying on powerful neck muscles to rip chunks of flesh and body parts off. So, the winner in the bite competition is the mighty T-Rex. With all the crucial attributes examined and compared, it's time to put these two monsters in the Fantasy Brawl battle arena.
A T-Rex has depleted its hunting grounds of tasty prey and decides to venture into a new area, effectively making itself an invasive species. Naturally, this upsets the natural order of things, causing rapid decline in the new habitat as the T-Rex can eat... a lot. Sensing this, Godzilla, now in his chibi form, rises from the sea to meet the new threat.
Godzilla makes his way onto land and lets out a threatening roar upon encountering the T-Rex. This roar serves as both a warning and a chance for the T-Rex to back off and bow to the King of the Monsters. But the T-Rex, being royalty itself, does not bow and instead charges headfirst at his opponent. Godzilla takes the hit directly to the chest but is largely unfazed due to his thick hide.
Godzilla then attempts to put the T-Rex in a headlock to cut off its oxygen supply, but Rexie manages to catch one of Godzilla's arms in his jaws, clamping down hard. This causes immense pain to Godzilla, though it's not enough to completely sever the arm. Adapting his combat style to avoid those deadly jaws, Godzilla uses his powerful tail to trip the T-Rex, causing it to fall flat on its back.
The T-Rex quickly tries to right itself and goes in for another bite, but Godzilla anticipates this, using his massive arms and claws to grab Rexie's smaller upper torso and throw him hard to the ground. Godzilla then stomps on the T-Rex's chest and attempts an atomic breath... but he remembers he's been nerfed by the Fantasy Brawls arena and, instead, rips the T-Rex's throat out.
As many of you probably guessed, Godzilla thrashes the T-Rex even when heavily nerfed. The King of the Monsters possesses far too many tools for any real predator to counter. He's too strong to overpower and too smart for the T-Rex to simply spam its biting attacks. But if you're a fan of Rexie, you're in luck. There's another battle where he fares much better. Head over to my T-Rex vs Spinosaurus Battle Simulator to see if the King of Dinos can pull off a win.
