I'm taking a little break from developing the Fantasy Brawls Online Game to bring to you one of the most exciting battles to date. In this week's edition of Fantasy Brawls, we have a mighty Silverback Gorilla and a super stealthy Tiger in the battle arena. Both animals are the epitome of power, so it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top. Let's start out with a size comparison.
It's important to remember that there are multiple species of Tigers and Gorillas in our great big, beautiful world. So, for the sake of brevity, we'll be comparing the biggest each species has to offer. First up is the Gorilla, with the biggest species being the Eastern Lowland Gorilla. This muscular specimen can weigh up to 500 pounds and stand up to 6.5 feet tall.
A monstrous sight indeed, especially in comparison to humans. However, the biggest Tiger species, the Siberian, can weigh up to 700 pounds, with the largest on record being over 800 pounds. These terrifying cats can measure up to 12 feet from head to tail. So, without question, the size advantage goes to the Tiger. With that out of the way, let's compare the overall power of these beasts.
Measuring the strength of a quadrupedal animal in comparison to a bipedal one like a gorilla is a bit difficult and requires a bit of imagination. Fortunately for you, there's no shortage of that around this site! Gorillas are the undisputed bodybuilders and powerlifters of the animal kingdom. They can easily lift over 1,000 pounds and possess a stronger bite force than tigers.
They also have a godlike grip force at around 2,000 PSI. This makes them strong enough to crush a tiger's spine if they can get hold of it. When it comes to traditional strength, as we humans think of it, the gorilla is superior in almost every way. However, tigers fight like cats, not apes, so let's see which of these creatures is faster.
Gorillas are sort of quadrupedal in their movements, as they technically sprint using their knuckles and feet. They can surprisingly move at over 20 mph doing so. This is impressive, but it is nothing compared to the speed of the tiger. These cats can run at top speeds of 40 mph for much longer distances than their opponent. The edge in speed goes to the tiger.
With speed, power, and size examined, the final category to go over is weaponry. Tigers have their claws, while Gorillas bring superior intellect and massive arm muscles.
A gorilla is a tough beast to face in a fight. They have long arms capable of dealing skull-shattering blows to opponents. In addition to their powerful muscles, they are armed with long canine teeth and a 1,300 PSI bite force, capable of easily tearing through flesh and bone.
Tigers also possess a scary arsenal. Each one of these beasts is equipped with razor-sharp claws, teeth designed for tearing and ripping flesh, and powerful jaws. Here's a summary of what each combatant brings to the table.
Category | Gorilla | Tiger |
---|---|---|
Bite Force | 1,300 PSI | 1,000 PSI |
Claws | None | 3-4 inch razor-sharp claws |
Grip Strength | Over 2,000 PSI | N/A |
Speed | 20-25 mph | 40 mph |
Fighting Style | Brute force, grappling | Stealth, precision attacks |
Both animals are impressive, but the tiger's weapons are specifically designed for murder, while the gorilla's are more for defense and problem-solving. So, in the final category, the edge goes to the tiger. With all relevant categories examined, it's time to head into this week's Fantasy Brawl.
The fight kicks off in the dense jungle, where both animals size each other up. The gorilla stands tall, pounding its chest, while the tiger crouches low, eyes locked on its opponent.
Suddenly, the tiger launches forward in a blur, swiping at the gorilla's arm. The gorilla recoils but grabs hold of the tiger's shoulder, its monstrous grip nearly crushing bone. The tiger twists and rakes its claws down the gorilla's chest, drawing blood. The gorilla roars in fury, swinging its powerful arm in a massive backhand that sends the tiger tumbling.
Wounded but still in the fight, the tiger regains its footing and circles the gorilla, waiting for an opening. The gorilla charges, attempting to grapple again, but the tiger is too fast. In a flash, it leaps onto the gorilla's back, sinking its deadly fangs into its thick neck. The gorilla flails, trying to shake the tiger loose, but the feline holds firm.
After a brutal struggle, the tiger's jaws clamp down harder, crushing the gorilla's windpipe. The mighty ape collapses, struggling for air, but it's too late. With a final roar of victory, the tiger stands over its fallen opponent.
The tiger walked away with the win this time around. A natural-born killer with all the tools, agility, and power of a comic book villain was too much for even the biggest gorilla to overcome. Even if the biggest gorilla fought the smallest species of tiger, the Sumatran, the results would likely be the same.
