In this week's Fantasy Brawl, we're treated to a bout between the king of the jungle, the Lion, and the emperor of the forest, the Grizzly Bear. Both animals are enormous, equipped with deadly weapons, and are itching for a battle. What would happen if these two met face-to-face on the battlefield? Let's find out by first determining which of these animals is bigger.
Lions are really big cats. How big, you ask? Well, a fully grown, well-fed male African lion can tip the scales at around 500 pounds, with the largest specimens weighing in at 600 pounds. This is definitely not the kind of cat you want cuddling on your lap while watching Netflix.
Grizzlies, however, are mythical beasts. A big male Grizzly can weigh as much as two or three lions at 1,500 pounds. They are also extremely tall, capable of standing at 10 feet in height when on their hind legs. Without a doubt, the grizzly takes the early advantage in the size category. But does all that extra bulk equate to more strength? Let's determine that next.
In terms of raw strength, lions are more than capable of subduing prey much larger than themselves, like water buffalo. However, they tend to rely on their pride for assistance and only fight solo when defending turf.

In terms of overall power, the Grizzly Bear is the winner. It has greater muscle mass, more durable muscles, and a body built for endurance. The lion is now 0-2 in the stats department, but can it make up for it when we compare the speeds of these two monsters?
Bears, despite their bulky appearance, can move quite fast in short bursts. In a sprint, a Grizzly can reach 35 mph, making them more than fast enough to catch a fleeing human. Lions, however, as you'd expect, are much faster, capable of reaching speeds of 50 mph.
In a short race, the lion walks away with the win, but in terms of endurance, the grizzly is a better distance runner. They can sustain their speeds much longer than lions, who generally gas out around 100 yards. But when it comes to raw speed, there aren't many faster than a lion, the grizzly included. Winner: Lion.
Even the biggest lion does not stand a chance in a fight with an angry grizzly bear. Grizzlies are too big, strong, and battle-hardened to be toppled by such a spoiled feline. Male lions are tough, but most of the hunting is handled by the females. They generally only show up when it's time to eat or deliver a finishing blow.
Only solitary male lions or those who've formed bachelor groups engage in frequent hunting expeditions. Grizzly bears lead a totally different life. No one does the hunting for them, and they run solo for most of their lives unless it's mating season. The bear's tougher life, higher fight IQ, and bigger muscles make easy work of the lion.
